We honor authentic Japanese factory sharpening processes, using only factory-grade techniques and equipment to restore a true factory edge.

Convex Edge:
Hair scissors are factory-sharpened with a convex edge, and this is the standard you should expect at your salon. A convex edge features a smooth, continuous taper from the spine of the blade to the cutting edge, forming a single, uninterrupted surface. Proper sharpening should maintain this geometry, with no visible bevel or inconsistencies on the blade face.
Rideline:
The interior of the blades features a precisely defined, perfectly leveled, symmetrical, and highly polished rideline. This structural element reinforces the edges, allowing the sharpening to maintain peak performance for up to a year. The blades remain perfectly aligned along the cutting arc, producing a smooth, consistent cutting stroke with minimal friction between the edges. Preserving it is vital for both performance and longevity of your shears.
Blade Geometry:
Material has been removed uniformly, ensuring the blade’s curvature remains exactly as originally engineered. The factory-specified sharpening angles have been maintained, and no alterations to the blade geometry are detectable. As a result, the scissors exhibit no obvious signs of service work and continue to perform precisely within their original factory parameters.
Hollow Ground:
When properly sharpened, the hollow-ground should remain fully intact and completely preserved. This concave design minimizes blade-to-blade contact, reducing friction so that only the cutting edges and the pivot point engage during use.
Pivot Point:
After sharpening, the blade’s internal geometry has been precisely recalibrated. The inner edges have been meticulously leveled, eliminating any asymmetries in the blade’s inner topography. The pivot point height has been adjusted to align perfectly with the new edge profile. As a result, the scissors now provide a consistent, fluid cutting motion, with pivot friction minimized for a smooth and effortless cutting experience.
Tip Alignment:
The proper procedure, as taught in manufacturing facilities in Asia, involves carefully bending the soft steel of the cast handle using a specialized adjustment system. This method restores the tip alignment without altering or damaging the bumper, thereby preserving the comfort and ergonomics of the handle and extending the overall lifespan of the shears.
Polishing:
A properly executed polishing should leave the blades with a mirror-like finish. More importantly, it ensures optimal performance, allowing both standard cutting and slide-cutting techniques to be executed smoothly and efficiently. Skilled technicians can also tailor the final edge finish to suit specific cutting techniques, optimizing the blade’s interaction with hair based on your individual style and performance expectations.

Disclaimer: Scissors that are deemed too low quality or have irreversible sharpening damage and therefore are not considered a worthwhile investment or unlikely to yield satisfactory results will be returned to the sender with a full refund and a written explanation.
